My name is Giovanni Gavin I am a prospective undergraduate who majors in Integrated Marketing Communication at the Caribbean School of Media and Communication under the University of the West Indies, Mona. I deem himself to be a highly innovative and creative individual, who frequently tried to enhance or improve any structure or entity that I come across. I engage in anything that consists of planning and developing an innovative thought or concept that can be harnessed to positively enhance “the quality of life” for example; ideas on starting a new business, a program, or a societal campaign.
My hobbies are sculpting “ceramics” binge-watching documentaries or crime investigation series, engaging in group discussions on debatable and or controversial topics, especially topics that are about social phenomena or social issues. Moreover, I believe in fine leadership, The art of individualism, and having a great sense of intuitiveness all of which I believe are desirable elements that one must acquire to truly understand what this thing we call “life” is about.
Exigency of Blog
When people think of racism it is usually against people outside of their ethnicity. Colourism, on the other hand, Typically involves the act of discrimination against individuals of a darker hue. The idea of racism and colorism is similar. Someone with a lighter complexion is considered to be more beautiful or valuable than someone with a darker shade. Moreover, being that I am in the field of media and communication, I have witnessed colorist acts being portrayed casually and subconsciously amongst my social circle. Therefore, considering the sensitivity of this social phenomenon that was and is usually overlooked in social institutions such as the home, work, school, and the media, etc, due to controversial occurrences that may result thereafter, has caused me to lack the level of courage and enthusiasm needed to undertake this particular topic.
However, the EDTK3004 Education Technology course at the University of the West Indies is a course that looks at available technologies and processes that aid in the enhancement of the teaching and learning process. The course has encouraged me to finally discuss the topic of colorism as a social phenomenon that affects societies globally. Education technology provided me with an avenue for creativity and consists of unique and diverse assessments one of which includes the creation of a blog as a medium to disseminate information relating to a particular topic or teach a particular set or specific group of people about a subject matter that he o she can grasp their own understanding and may perhaps construct their own comprehension and subsequently share their interpretations, promoting a discussion on the subject that is exigent.
